Channel View graduate Folorunsu Fatukasi, or “Foley”, has emerged as a top pick in this year’s NFL draft. Fatusaki was the first player to go directly to a Division I college football program upon graduating from Beach Channel Educational Campus, where he played both football and basketball. He currently studies communication science at the University of Connecticut, where he has been a star player for the UConn Huskies, despite the team’s dismal record overall. After playing for the NFL, Fatukasi plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration. The 6-foot-4, 318-pound interior lineman is currently hard at training alongside other NFL hopefuls at EXOS in Pensacola, Florida in preparation for the scouting combine in Indianapolis, Indiana in late February.

Fatukasi is also passionate about community advocacy. At UConn, he is part of the campus’ Collective Uplift program, which focuses on the holistic health, social and political awareness, and personal growth of young athletes of color. Growing up on Beach 46th Street, Fatukasi is grateful for all the adult mentors who helped guide him along his path and hopes one day to pass that forward as an adult mentor himself.
