Philippines grants US greater access to military bases
MANILA – The Philippines has granted the United States expanded access to its military bases, its defense ministry said on Thursday, amid mounting concern over China’s growing assertiveness within the disputed South China Sea and tensions over self-ruled Taiwan.
An announcement from the Philippine protection ministry stated Washington can be given access to 4 extra areas beneath an Enhanced Protection Cooperation Settlement (EDCA) courting again to 2014. – Reuters
